The Giannotto Clinic takes pride in its ability to offer the finest, most successful Hair Restoration Procedures for thinning or balding areas of the scalp. Hair Restoration is a permanent solution to a problem that has both genetic and hormonal etiologies. The medical literature supports the view that hair loss in a male patient has both hereditary and hormonal components. The individual inherits the genetic trait and it is expressed when a chemical reaction occurs during the metabolism of the hormone testosterone. Hair loss results, first in the crown and the fronto-temporal areas, and secondarily may spread to the midscalp and hairline. The degree of loss depends upon the amount of gene expression. Men always retain hair around the back and side of their scalp. This hair is immune to the mechanisms described above and subsequently, is permanent.
Women lose hair more diffusely. Genetics and hormonal reactions play a role as in men. However, recent studies implicate a lack of estrogen as the hormonal deficiency. This causes a relative decrease in the amount of estrogen to testosterone and may result in hair loss.
In either case, we can restore hair by borrowing some of the permanent follicles from the sides and back of the scalp and transplanting these follicles to the balding/thinning areas on the top of the scalp. The result is always naturally growing, permanent hair!
There are two surgical methods of Hair Transplantation. In FUT, or Follicular Unit Transplantation, a strip of hair bearing scalp is removed from the donor, or permanent area. The hair follicles, or follicular units, are dissected from this strip under magnification provided by microscopes, and subsequently implanted into the balding/thinning areas of the scalp. This procedure allows the transplantation of up to 3000 grafts in a single session. The results are fantastic and permanent. Recovery/Visibility time is 3-5 days depending upon the individual.
The second method is FUE Neograft using an automated technology. Follicular Unit Extraction utilizes no incisions in the scalp. The follicular units are removed directly from the scalp with the aid of a robotic device, leaving a tiny puncture wound which heals within several hours. The hairs are then implanted into the balding/thinning areas through the tip of a very fine needle, creating a tiny puncture which heals very quickly. The results are fantastic and permanent, and the recovery/visibility time is 1 day. This method is limited to 2000 grafts or less because it is very labor intensive and requires more time than FUT.
Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)
If you are beginning to thin and desire to slow or stop the progression of hair loss, cold laser therapy may be your answer. This therapy uses a low level of pure laser light which is directed 8-10mm under the skin. This allows for follicular stimulation and growth of dormant follicles. The laser light also decreases fall-out of hair and renders the scalp healthy. The treatment protocols may be in-clinic using a free standing laser device, or at-home, using a portable laser helmet. In both cases, hair densities are measured to follow the course of treatment and regulate the laser dose to the scalp. This program has been shown to have positive effects in 100% of women and 87% of men who follow the protocol. We also use laser therapy after surgical transplantation to facilitate healing and make graft growth more rapid.
Pease feel free to contact our clinic personnel or visit our website for further information. We will be happy to answer any questions and design a program to combat your hair loss.
